Modern Water Filtering

Perforated Tubes, Inc. has been a leader in industrial filtration technology for nearly 50 years. Over the course of the last half-century, we’ve seen firsthand how the industry has changed and progressed. We’ve even played a role in this growth ourselves by inventing much of the perforated steel tube manufacturing technology in use by filtering processes today. In this blog post, we take a brief look into the past to see just how far the industry has come.

Early Days

Filtration has been around a long time, even dating back to Ancient Egypt, where people used sand and gravel to filter water. By the 20th Century, manufacturers were using natural materials, such as wool and wood fiber, in their filtration processes. With continued growth and increasing demand from end-user markets, it wasn’t long before new developments in filtration media, including inorganic membranes like ceramics, came along to boost performance. As the equipment started to evolve, so, too, did the techniques. We were later introduced to reverse osmosis, cross-flow filtration and modern surface treating processes, like electropolishing and powdercoat finishes, and others that helped drive the industry forward.

Industrial Filtration Today

Modern technology enables better flow rates and offers materials that can withstand more extreme environments and temperatures. Today, filtration serves a wide variety of users and applications in the food and beverage, aerospace, automotive, oil filtration, pharmaceuticals and power generation industries, to name a few.

In recent years, the industrial filtration industry continues to grow and expand. As users demand greater efficiency, higher durability and more affordability, the equipment and techniques adapt. Some of the reasons why industrial filtration has seen so much innovation include population growth, rapid urbanization and climate change. Governing bodies are tightening their regulations, especially for water and vehicle emissions, which call for more advanced filtration products and processes.
