Olympic Torch Here at Perforated Tubes, Inc., we’re proud of our portfolio and ability to support diverse perforated tube applications. Founded in 1964, we’ve honed our expertise and refined our capabilities over years spent serving businesses from all around the world and operating in a wide range of industries. One project that we’re particularly proud of is our work in the development of the torch used during Torino’s 2006 Winter Olympics.

Keeping the Flame Alive

The primary name behind the innovative torch carried during the 2006 Winter Olympics torch relay was Pininfarina, a renowned Italian automotive design firm. But in order to ensure that the torch continued burning brightly all throughout the relay, Perforated Tubes, Inc. had the privilege of contributing our considerable expertise to the project.

From the outside, the 2006 torch was clearly inspired by the wooden torches of old, featuring a club-like design. Other influences included one of Torino’s most notable buildings, the Mole Antonelliana, as well as the shape of a ski tip. The torch flaunts a striking blue color, and it’s crafted of sleek metal – primarily aluminum, though copper and technopolymers were also used. The Torino 2006 logo adorns the torch to mark the momentous occasion.

Atop the torch is where our knowledge was put to good work. There, precisely designed perforations allowed the torch to maintain its flame in accordance with Olympic regulations. This meant that the flame was required to burn, no matter the weather conditions, for at least 15 minutes without reaching a height of more than 10 centimeters. Thanks to our contributions, the torch relay went smoothly, marking yet another memorable addition to our list of successes.
